I was nervous about buying on-line, with no opportunity to try out, but I had several conversations with staff before making the order, and they were all very helpful. The John Ryan website is also very informative. I was keen to have good motion isolation, as my wife fidgets, so we went for the zip and link option. The mattresses are deep and heavy, so, as well as providing good motion isolation, the zip and link option makes them easier to turn. I would think turning a normal king size mattress must be quite difficult. The bed and mattress arrived ahead of time, all in perfect condition. We have had the bed for a couple of months now. It is extremely comfortable and luxurious. For us, medium tension is just right, firm enough, but you also sink in a little bit to give that touch of luxury. Overall, we could not be more pleased and we would thoroughly recommend John Ryan. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for!

Decided to research buying a new bed, as over the years my purchases left me feeling I got it wrong again. So came across John Ryan by design and asked plenty of questions. The help was brilliant asking questions about my health, my sleep habits and type of bed I was using. After reading decided to go ahead with purchasing a bed, the cost was alot more than I had allocated to spend on a bed, I was not disappointed. My bed arrived beginning of February and after 7 weeks of sleeping on it, I can honestly say it's been an absolute dream. The delivery was excellent and the guys put it together and adjusted it to where I wanted it placed. Giving me the lowdown on looking after it. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Love my Pocket Original 1500. This is a very professional company (always a worry when buying an important purchase like the mattress you spend 8 hours a day using) but you can trust them. I've had mine for 2 months now (had a Staples before that) and it's beautiful to sleep on.

Having had two ViSpring mattresses previously, I was sceptical that they could be matched for comfort by John Ryan. After having the mattress for a month I forgot it was still actually under trial and could be returned. I’m delighted with my mattress and the whole John Ryan experience and yes I kept the mattress.

Great communication and customer service. After I ordered my mattress I received a call from the team checking that I had ordered the best mattress for my weight and height and sleeping habits, which was a thoughtful touch! And the mattress itself (Origins pocket 1500) is great; comfortable and breathable, a vast improvement to my previous boxed mattress). Would recommend to a friend!

The on line advice was excellent, as was follow up call. I was clerly dealing with expert bed specialists. The base and matress were delivered on time and the bed is very comfortable. I thought the price seemed very reasonable for the quality of product.

We've had our new bed for a couple of months now. Very happy with the comfort, quality, and service. Interestingly, we'd picked one mattress type based on their online guidance. When I spoke to them, they went into a bit more detail about our needs and recommended a slightly cheaper model. Note: these mattresses are heavy. In our case, it was probably pushing twice the weight of the much cheaper mattress it replaced. We have a superking and it's a proper job safely turning it.

After our previous mattress from another company had come to the stage of being very uncomfortable, I spent quite a while reading reviews and comments across the internet for suggestion and experiences. John Ryan by Design came highly recommended in many places and by many people. Our main issue was with the firmness of our current mattress after sagging so were looking for a soft mattress, and preferably not another memory foam mattress. We chose the softest in the range, the Artisan Luxury. I was concerned it may be too soft, but we felt confident with the 60 day guarantee that if it were too soft we could exchange. The materials and quality looked excellent on the website. When it arrived I was surprised as it was a lot firmer than I anticipated. This could be due to us having a solid base rather than a sprung divan. We tried persisting with the mattress but sadly our bodies did not adjust and we were not finding it comfortable. There was no issue with arranging a return, it was handled quickly and with no difficulty. I can honestly say dealing with John Ryan by Design has been one of the best experiences with buying online. The service before purchasing was excellent, with Gary answering my questions, and on ordering a call to confirm the purchase details and check it was suitable for us. The quality of the mattress was very high, and the handling of the return was faultless. I can highly recommend their product and the company.

So disappointed with the service I have received. After sending numerous emails you simply decided not to respond to my emails. I don’t understand why you could not simply reply to my email regards to what type of wool you actually use as there are so many different types from cheap to expensive and also if you simply use pads fillings or does your manufacturer hand tease the fillings, which the likes of Hastens, Savoir and Hypnos do. I did read on your website that you think it’s a gimmick to hand tease but when the likes of the most luxurious mattress makers in the world say otherwise it makes me wonder why you believe they are all wrong and you are right. Once again very disappointed with the service as I expected more from yourselves seen as though you have some great reviews.

We wanted a good mattress and thought that by investing £1500, we would get a good and long lasting quality mattress. However 4 years after our purchase, and despite turning the mattress every 2 weeks, we felt some depressions on each side of the bed and these only increased until we decided to raise a complaint. The John Ryan team were responsive (nothing to say on that) but the message was clear: it’s normal the mattress sags after some years. We resolved ourselves to buy a new mattress (couldn’t stand waking every morning with a back ache). To conclude, the mattress was nice at the beginning but lost its qualify far too soon for the price we paid.

We have had this mattress a few weeks and really love it. In the past we have had foam mattresses which make us too hot and smell of synthetic horrid smells which make it hard to breathe, or have had spring and wool and I am allergic to wool. The quality of this build and the natural use of latex means the mattress is comfortable like other spring mattresses but without the need for wool and the latex has a mild pleasant vanilla smell which went after a day of breathing. The quality of the springs and firmness works for both a big man and a petite wife. We are really happy and are sleeping well for the first time in years. A great product at a great price. The makers should be proud, well done. We will certainly replace all the mattresses in our house with this make.

First class service can't fault them

Helpful, friendly company whose main concern is that the bed is completely correct for the customer. Can't fault the staff or, indeed the bed. Both are absolutely brilliant. A happy customer!

Our experience with our John Ryan Artisan Bespoke Mattress has not had the best of outcomes. We were not given correct advice from them and had a Soft mattress, which with the sprung base has proved more uncomfortable as time has passed. We were advised not to have drawers which would make the bed too high, and find the bed very low. In our late 70's we do not have the strength to turn the mattresses easily and they do need turning every 2 weeks for comfort, and moving the bed is very difficult for us. We are having to dispose of the bed after 5 years + uncomfortable use and are finding the fact that we have a 6ft wide bed with two linked mattresses 6ft 6" long makes getting replacement mattresses difficult. We had an independent advisor look at the bed and he told us that we should not have bought a soft mattress, but we did ask the question before purchasing having tested a Vi Spring soft mattress first. I think the quality of John Ryan products is good but for the reasons above not the right one for us and John Ryan has not helped us and did not respond to our early concerns on email. On reflection it was not a good idea to buy a mattress without testing it first.
