After a good deal of research I ordered a pair of zip and link mattresses (King size) of different firmnesses to allow for the considerable weight differences between my husband and myself. The company were very responsive and took the time to listen to my queries and explain over the phone how the zip function works (it isn't very obvious from the description and photos would help!) The ordering process was straightforward and delivery on schedule. We were phoned early in the morning when they were 15 minutes away to make sure we were ready. Having two mattresses made the delivery up the narrow stairs much easier. I arranged for the old mattress to be taken away and recycled and this was all done very efficiently and politely. The mattresses are lovely, very well made, luxurious and comfortable and we are both sleeping very well on them. There was a faint smell for a day or so but leaving them without bedding for as long as possible and keeping the window open worked. However, turning them is not easy - they are really deep and heavy - even splitting the King size into two. There would have been no chance of my being able to turn a whole mattress - I can just about manage the single on my own. Secondly, if you have fitted sheets you will need extra deep ones, my 36cm depth sheet fits well. All in all highly recommended.

I just want to say that although we have unfortunately returned the mattress today under the 60 day return policy, I think John Ryan are an excellent company and have been good with us from start to finish. In comparison, we tried a bensons for beds exclusive mattress before John Ryan that was truly awful. Delivery wait was 3-4 months & communication was absolutely terrible. That bad that we ended up accepting our losses and just giving it away to the British heart foundation. We were over our grace period, due to us having the mattress propped up in the new house while we decorated and did stuff to the bedroom. The Origins 1500 that we purchased is clearly a well-made impressive mattress. Myself and the Mrs did have a hard time adapting to it at first. We trialled it for more or less 50 of the 60 days. My back discomfort eventually went as my body got used to the product, but unfortunately my girlfriends got worse. She was right at the lower end of spring tension recommended by John Ryan, so it could have been that. Though she has always preferred a firm or/and cheap mattress weirdly enough. She’s comfy on our spare silent night essential 600 spring mattress. If we were to split the night into two stages of sleep, then I’d say that this mattress for us was fantastic for the first half. Getting into it was so lovely and you couldn’t believe my excitement at getting into it after a 12 hour night shift. It was however the second half that we lost comfort and the Mrs really struggled to have any sort of lay in. This is obviously personal preference and I don’t think it takes anything away from the mattress or whether you should purchase it. It goes to show the reputation of John Ryan, when the delivery lads who collected it were shocked that I was returning it. He said he’s only ever collected one before and that was due to some loose stitching. He then proceeded to show me the van full of Simba & Emma mattresses collected that day and said that’s what the van looks like most days. Not ideal as we are planning on possibly getting a Simba Pro as replacement to try (have multiple friends that love theirs)... Just want to add that both the delivery and collection was spot on. Both times Covid safe, and really nice lads. To summarise, I thinks it’s really worth trying one of these mattresses. I was tempted to ask if the collection company would accept the Mrs and I keep the mattress instead. The mattress search continues...

I did a lot of research before I decided on the mattress I wanted.... John Ryan ticked all the boxes. I ordered online, and I was contacted by telephone immediately by one of JohnRyan operators. She looked at my order and went through a number of questions about why I had ordered the certain mattress I had ordered and we came to the conclusion that I ought to order a different model. She guaranteed if the choice I made turned out to be the wrong one I could change it without any question. My mattress was delivered on time and I love it. I am totally happy with my purchase and the help and advice I received was brilliant. I definitely recommend this Company

This is an excellent company. From the first telephone call to the delivery of the mattresses, everything was easy. The sales staff spent a great deal of time answering my questions, thus ensuring that we chose the right mattresses. So far so good. We are enjoying a good night’s sleep!

Lovely thick mattress, comfortable, good advice from Jonathan about our requirements, had the mattress for two weeks, will turn and flip it once a month as suggested, my husband can smell the horse hair, but have been advised that this will fade, no concerns at all , not the cheapest of mattresses but good quality.

This is the second mattress from John Ryan and it is perfect. Had very good communication with company and delivery very well done.

Service from John Ryan was very good, from the initial phone call with lots of good advice to the courier company delivering the bed. The only thing that was disappointing was the attitude of the delivery men. They weren’t too happy to install the bed despite this being the service that I had paid for.

I have used John Ryan by Design Ltd. in the past to make a bed for me, so chose them again this time: and they came up trumps, as before. The bed was delivered and assembled in an excellent manner and in good time; and it is indeed a very good and comfortable bed (so my 13 year-old son says, whose bed it is). I will be using them again soon, when I have another bed requirement.

Everything about John Ryan was and is brilliant! The customer service was fantastic and they really care about making sure you get the right mattress! Our mattress is perfect and we now have the best nights sleep and don’t wake up with back ache!

I came across John Ryan by Design after waiting 4 months for delivery of a Pure Tranquility mattress and bed from Bensons for Beds which had been cancelled three times on the actual day of delivery (once without any advance warning). In utter frustration at the appalling Bensons customer service, I cancelled my order, received a full refund and made enquiries with John Ryan by Design. Not only did I receive prompt responses to my email enquiries, I also received personal telephone contact and follow-up advice. I decided on my mattress of choice, placed the order and received delivery earlier than I expected. I only wish I had come across John Ryan by Design 4 months earlier than I did. I would not hesitate to recommend them - first class from start to finish. Oh .... and the mattress is top quality and an absolute delight to sleep on!

I can only echo what others are writing about these mattresses and the poor responses from the company. The type of customers who are buying these and leaving bad reviews are clearly not fools but far too many are reporting similar problems. Mattresses feel great to start with, then they begin to sag and become uncomfortable and within a year or two have to be dumped. Neither of us is overweight incidentally. A two inch hammock-like dip is apparently acceptable they say. Enquiries are smoothed over till it's too late then complaints are simply brushed aside. Court action looming? Probably. What a waste of time, energy and money. Avoid But do look at John Lewis Luxury range. We're had one of these in our house for about he same length of time, it has had more usage and is still in near original condition. And is about 40% of the price of the one we bought from John Ryan
