I had lens replacement surgery on Monday 6th January at the Optical Express branch in Nottingham. The whole team from reception staff to all staff involved in my journey have been exceptional and so helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble, everything was explained thoroughly and all the tests done were so well executed and I felt as ease throughout the whole process My surgeon Dr Manu Mathew and all the team in theatre made me feel so relaxed and the actual procedure was pain free and no where near as bad as I thought it would be My after care even though it’s only been 5 days has been very good and all my drops and do’s and dont’s explained throughly I can see so much better all ready and I’m sure it’s gonna be a game changer, so please if your even considering having it done pop for a free consultation to see what they can do and how amazing it feels so far not having to put my glasses on or putting in my lenses Optical Express and all the team Thank You ☺️

Right through out the consultation and post op process I was fully informed of what was going on and I found this very reassuring as you’d expect with delicate surgery with ones eyesight. Staff were always very polite and attentive. I can now read near/far and I am so relieved not to have to keep my glasses with me all the time. I have started to read books again, it really has made a difference to my quality of life. I am very thankful to the surgeon and his team for this.

I was consulted by Optical express and told I would be a good candidate for multifocal lens replacement which meant I wouldn’t need to wear glasses at all. I booked in and waited around 8 weeks for the surgery, only to get a call one day before my visit telling me that the surgeon had checked my eye results and wasn’t happy with giving me multifocal lenses. The surgeon said that I had early signs of macular degeneration and they could only offer me monofocal lenses as an alternative which meant my vision would improve for distance but I would still need to wear glasses for close up reading etc. I did not feel that this was giving me enough time to weigh up my options and this issue should have definitely been addressed earlier to me. I did however, go ahead with the monofocal lens replacement because I was told that I was barely legal for driving standards ie, seeing number plates and road signs etc! This was £5500 instead of my initial quote of £7090 which I was mentally prepared for. I cannot complain regarding the service I received from the receptionist, eye examiners, surgeon and all the staff.. they were all very polite and professional and made my experience comfortable on each visit but my only complaint would be that they should have definitely discovered my early sings of macular degeneration earlier and not sold me the dream if you like! I believe I should have known this 8 weeks either when I was examined or even a short while after but instead I was told the day before my surgery which sort of had me prepared for the following day regarding discomfort, costs, time off work, preparation and general mental preparation. All in all a good team of professionals and a pretty smooth procedure and recovery, but the surgeons need to review the patient’s results before they are told what lenses they can or cannot have.

They were very accommodating fitting me in today because for some reason I didn’t realise that my appointment was yesterday! Finally I found the appointment email, which had unusually ended up with my Spam emails. All their others were in my Inbox. The opticians are very efficient.

Awful experience for laser lense replacement surgery in their Cardiff branch. Firstly, on day of surgery booklet suggests 2 hours was told I had an old brochure (I didn’t) and it would be closer to 3. Actual time 5 hours - with ZERO communication why. Had to call their central office from the waiting room to get any sort of response - people at the front desk wont and apparently can’t get involved in the surgery part of the business. Nervous enough without hearing about a poor woman in surgery who clearly had complications (we know because another person waiting was in the adjacent bed being prepared, then sent back, for his surgery!). Lots of reviews about clarity of colours and sharpness after surgery but found out since colours only relevant in cateract patients (my prescription was -2.75 in the worse eye) and I’ve had and continue to have constant blurryness although I can read without glasses and therefore pass their ‘test’. Finally, will not see me for a final review and are vague at best about the post surgery option as detailed in their brochure that I believe I need - I called to make the final appointment as instructed by their e consultation admittedly a few weeks after but they refuse to see me without charge and now will not respond to my complaint. I have complained about the surgery and received a half hearted reply. Paid £7k (ignore the online quote it’s nonsense) and been treated like cattle! Would shop around if considering but don’t go to OE or certainly not Cardiff! Operation itself quite unpleasant and no comms from the surgeon but that’s another matter…. Another disappointing response below from them - they have enough information already (they asked via trust pilot for more which I gave) they don’t need another phone call just do their job and respond to my second complaint - generic response adds to the truth that post surgery customer care is non existent, inconsistent with the sales brochure, ignored (not shared with majority of patients statement), and likely cut & paste. Google this company, read the negative reviews here then decide!

So far so good .... in the process of supporting mum to have both eyes cataract surgery. The process has been smooth from enquiry onwards with comprehensive preoperative information given at every stage. Christian and Zarah (Swansea branch) took us through everything in just a couple of hours with thorough eye tests and examinations. We felt reassured. As a former Health Professional I have fairly high expectations and so was only going to entrust my mums eye surgery to a professional clinic. I did a fair amount of research before choosing Optical Express. The customer service has been very good. We look forward to write part 2 Post operative review !

Leg fell off my glasses, popped in on my lunch hour & they fixed within 5 minutes, also tightened up my spare pair, no charge & service with a smile 👍😊

I had my two eyes operated on same time for lens replacement due to cataracts. The clinic was a clean and comfortable environment located in Edinburgh's Haymarket District. It was not a shop as many people think! The staff are sll well trained and we're so helpful and friendly. Lots of aftercare with appointments the following day, then week later snd finally a month afterwards. A wonderful service and a great outcome.

The staff at the Birmingham branch are exceptionally polite and professional. I read some comments stating they are rude but my experience was fantastic. Nearly 10 years ago I had a consultation with vision express who suggested lens replacement as they did not feel I was suitable for the cheaper laser treatment. I then approached AccuVision The Eye Clinic and they said I was suitable. I booked in and had the laser treatment. After about 4 years the laser treatment started to fade and after 7 years I was nearly back to square one wearing glasses to read and drive ( wasted money). I returned to Optical express and booked in for lens replacement. The surgery went well and after was less uncomfortable than the previous laser treatment and the results are fantastic and I believe long term in comparison to laser treatment. A big thanks to Optical Express. I only wish I had listened the first time around

My experience on this clinic started good but it didn’t ended well. After all the consultations in the beginning I decided to go ahead with the LASEK eye surgery as my eye was suitable for this operation but the surgeon still had doubts if I should have or not the surgery. Not all the eyes are the same, and mine was an exemption like they stated to call after the surgery because the healing is taking so much longer. Everything till now was good, now start the part where all the aftercare appointments are done very quickly with the idea that needs time to get heal but let us finish these and discharge you. As I was complaining on every appointment for all the problem the only answer I was getting is “the surgery has gone fine, these are common problems after surgery and we need just to wait and give drops to use more”. I am sorry I can’t stay using eye drops all the time, and if I say I can see, I can’t read, work ect, and you still tell me everything looks good, I don’t know what to think. But they decided to stay on they words oh your eye has a lot of dryines and it will go with time, which this dryness on my eyes was caused by the surgery which they never mentioned before. Now nearly a year after the surgery I still have the same problems, but do they care no. Not to mention their customer service which is terrible, needed to call them more than 3 times a day and still can’t get through to the right person. As they finished all my aftercare appointments with your good but in fact no, and I had to experience their customer service back and forth for another appointment without paying as it was searched by they doctors and they couldn’t figure out this quickly, but need to pay £130 just to do a check up. I really need to mention that the staff ag the clinic has always been very good. I will not recommend this clinic to anyone, because with me they wasn’t as professional as they say, and I still have problems with the eye, dryness or not dryness cousin this problem. They couldn’t figure out how to do my aftercare appointments so we can see whats going on really with my eyes.
